Riley-Smith likewise makes a point to take note of every single significant supporter of the Crusade development and their characters. Various researchers have pondered whether this was a political or strict strategic. This assists with starting the topic of why individuals would leave their homes and their families to chance their lives attacking a land that was a huge number of miles away for strict reasons. In his book, Riley-Smith makes this time wake up for the cutting edge peruser. He does a generally excellent activity of surrendering it over to the peruser to choose and decipher the material how they wish. He appears to have no predisposition. Johnathan Riley-Smith starts with the introduction of the crusading development and the thoughts that prompted the real campaigns. He continues sequentially through ten parts to the Old Age and Death of the Crusading Movement, which happened somewhere in the range of 1523 and 1798. Riley-Smith shows how the savagery of the Crusades was supported by the convictions of that period. The individuals of that time analyzed this military activity as far as the aims in question. Nearly, in a way practically identical to that of a specialist who makes torment a patient so as to spare a real existence. However, likewise, he shows how the crusaders comprehended the subject of power and legislative issues. This included survey the Holy Land as a natural expansion to Christs widespread realm, which implied that, to them, the Holy Land was Christs imperial space or patrimony. Numerous researchers presently will in general decipher the Crusades with current belief system, focusing on factors that identify with foundation, financial matters, governmental issues, colonization, and so on. Riley-Smith clarifies the perspective of the enormous dominant part of crusaders, indicating that it was strict intensity and outright commitment to the Roman Catholic Church, which was to a great extent associated and snared with their previous history and afterward turned into their inclination that gave the inspiration that caused the Crusades. In this way, he shows how the clashi ng idea of the Crusades happened. For instance, attacking and murdering a grounds people for the sake of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. The principal section offers vital foundation data to understanding the underlying foundations of the campaign development. Riley-Smith makes way for the record of the First Crusade, which is the subject for the subsequent part, starting with the call of Pope Urban II to retake Jerusalem alongside a touch of political sponsorship. The third section depicts the workplace of the patriarch that existed in both Jerusalem and Antioch. Part four talks about the settlement, control and protection of the Latin East that existed somewhere in the range of 1097 and 1187. Part five discussions about the early campaigns of the twelfth century and the Second Crusade. Section six contains the Third, Fourth and Fifth Crusades, which happened somewhere in the range of 1187 and 1229. Section seven covers the years 1229 through approximately 1291. Part eight depicts the Latin East quickly, and section nine likewise offers an outline, which talks about the decent variety of the campaigns that happened somewhere in the range of 1291 and 1523. The book closes with section ten, which talks about the crusading development in its mature age, which incorporates the subjects of the Reformation, the military requests, and the Hospitallers of St. John and Malta. The Conclusion depicts how the Crusades have been comprehended in various verifiable times. Notwithstanding these points, Riley-Smith likewise offers portrayals of the few other Christian military tasks, which were incited against the agnostic people groups who lived in northern Europe, just as against the ââ¬Å"hereticsâ⬠living in the south of France and the Muslims living in Spain. I really delighted in this delineation of the Crusades. Despite the fact that I previously needed to ensure that I had a word reference helpful when I read it, I imagined that Riley-Smith made it straightforward. He sentences streamed well indeed and I loved the way that he left everything sequentially all together and didnââ¬â¢t go to and fro on numerous occasions. The parts were all around named for any peruser to comprehend what was in the material. I likewise delighted in the way that they werenââ¬â¢t staggeringly long and monotonous. I feel that this book showed me path more about the Crusades than I at any point knew previously. I had no clue about that it was all primarily began for strict reasons. The pasts of one gathering of individuals who had never at any point been to Jerusalem or even observed it, assisted with building the establishment of the whole development. It simply is astounding to me that those long stretches of battling was being supported by Jesus Christ. I donââ¬â¢t feel that battling for something you trust in isn't right, I just didnââ¬â¢t truly know how the Crusades were begun. I imagined that Johnathan Riley-Smith appeared to show no predisposition towards a specific perspectives when it resulted in these present circumstances book. I believed that would be extremely troublesome once I begun perusing and saw that it was about Christianity, probably the greatest religion on the planet. Everybody is inclination with regards to religion so for him to experience the entire book and history of the Crusades without sounding ââ¬Å"preachyâ⬠I thought was an achievement in itself. I scrutinized different pieces of this book however in light of the fact that I realize that despite the fact that it began for ââ¬Å"religious gainâ⬠I despite everything believe that it did at long last become to a greater extent a battle for control of land and force. I believe that Riley-Smith is straightforward however it this book is still so expansive that it leaves a ton for the peruser to translate and choose what truly occurred. In all the exploration that I did however in to the historical backdrop of the campaigns and Riley-Smith himself, I do feel that he gives the most fair portrayal of the campaigns that I have ever observed to date. Like I stated, as of not long ago all the books I have perused or motion pictures I have seen, I never realized that the campaigns was established on the thoughts of Christianity. There are parts that I might want to try and return and read once more. I feel that he makes an incredible showing to keep the history fascinating just as making it simple to peruse. Johnathan Riley-Smith, I believe, is an entirely proficient student of history who might be a generally excellent hotspot for data regarding this matter. I believe that his book worth in any event, utilizing in a class for a type of task or even a course book. He doesnââ¬â¢t make it extraordinarily dry, exhausting, and you need to rest in a short time like our course book does to me now and then. I would suggest this book for any individual who might need to ever do a paper or any sort of school take a shot at the campaigns. I delighted in this book without a doubt. deckmucomria1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/18112359000988999845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063222127604528594.post-90989244193172768452020-08-22T22:41:00.001-07:002020-08-22T22:41:10.905-07:00Features Of Connected Speech In English English Language EssayHighlights Of Connected Speech In English Language Essay Obscured limits, sounds and even words that are totally gobbled up, bit and mutilated words that constrain you to tune in with all your obtained information and a general feeling of sadness that you are never going to deal with this outside tongue are nevertheless the most widely recognized dissatisfactions communicated by the ESL students I have instructed. L2 clients instructed in a framework that prides in training the most exact and suitable articulation leaves them dumbfounded when they hear English (even bits of discussion) as spoken by L1 clients. They endure a staggering lessening of phonetic data at the segmental level when they experience typical discourse (Brown, G.1990, p.60) Associated discourse is certainly not a recognizable component to even familiar speakers of English in India thus they will in general completely structure the words even in casual circumstances, giving the impression to L1 speakers and other L2 speakers that, hes so self-important about everything (Crystal and Davy 1975,p.8) In this paper I would break down the highlights of associated discourse in English, the issues they cause to L2 students in India. In the principal segment I will inspect the highlights of associated discourse and move onto the difficulties they cause to L2 speakers particularly Indian ESL students. I might likewise want to examine my own and the common mentality and practice towards learning and showing associated discourse. At last I might want to recognize the models that I would apply in choosing the various parts of associated discourse appropriate to my getting the hang of/instructing condition. Associated discourse Underhill A (1994) characterizes associated discourse as a progression of sounds which are altered by an arrangement of rearrangements through which phonemes are associated, gathered and changed This improvement is an oblivious procedure and the majority of the L1 speakers are frequently uninformed of this as they practice it. (Collins B, and I. Mees 2008). The objective of associated discourse is to diminish the articulatory exertion required to send the message. Despite the fact that entire lumps of phonetic subtleties are forgotten about by the L1 speaker to augment the simplicity of correspondence, local audience interprets these messages utilizing the various kinds of help information in his collection. This decrease regularly happens inside words or words in a flood of discourse (Dalton C. what's more, B. Seidlhofer, 1994), where word limits get obscured. Words stream flawlessly, permitting the L1 speaker to utilize the pressure framework to stress the substance of the message. In this stream neighboring sounds are altered to take after one another Assimilation-; sounds are totally kept separate from words Elision-; and certain sounds perhaps embedded between the words to intertwine the words at limits Linking-. Highlights of associated discourse Digestion L1 speakers talk at a pace of 350 syllables for every moment in formal discourses and 400-450 words in casual discourse. (Crystal.D 1992; 1999) When the tongue needs to move starting with one articulating position then onto the next at this pace, just an estimate of the phoneme can be created. Therefore all phonemes happening inside a word or in a flood of discourse impact each other and alter with the phonemes of their neighbors (Brown, G.1990). Underhill (1994) sums up osmosis as the characteristic aftereffect of the different discourse organs compromising as they play out their perplexing arrangement of movements㠢â⠬â ¦ Despite the fact that any solid can impact some other sound hypothetically digestion is constrained to a couple of phonemes (Dalton C. furthermore, B. Seidlhofer, 1994) Alveolar consonants/t/,/d/and/n/toward the finish of a word regularly acclimatize to the spot of verbalization of the consonant toward the start of the following word (Underhill, 2005, p.60) Eãâ°Ã¢ ¡Ã£â¹Ã¢ Extraordinary Britain /greãâ°Ã¢ ªtbritãâ°Ã¢â ¢n/ /greãâ°Ã¢ ªÃ£Å¡Ã¢â¬ pbrãâ°Ã¢ ªtãâ°Ã¢â ¢n/ Wont come /wãâ°Ã¢â ¢Ã£Å¡Ã¥ ntkãšå'm/ /wãâ°Ã¢â ¢Ã£Å¡Ã¥ nãšâ⬠kãšå'm/ Somewhere near law /daãšå nbaãâ°Ã¢ ªlãâ°Ã¢â¬ :/ /daãšå mbaãâ°Ã¢ ªlãâ°Ã¢â¬ :/ Great young lady /gãšå dgãâ°Ã¥:l/ /gãšå ggãâ°Ã¥:l/ Elision At the point when the discourse exertion is diminished for most extreme proficiency, the verbalization of individual phonemes gets debilitated. At the point when these phonemes are limited extraordinarily they are dropped from associated discourse. Elision is the way toward dropping a sound (a vowel or a consonant), from a word when it is articulated as a major aspect of associated discourse. RP sounds short and cut to L2 speakers and speakers of different assortments of English because of elision of the schwa (/Ãâ°Ã¢â ¢/) sound. The most regularly omitted sounds in English are/t/,/d/and/Ãâ°Ã¢â ¢/. Difficulties to L2 students and educators A familiarity with associated discourse highlights is fundamental to encourage listening cognizance in an ESL student. An absence of these highlights doesn't influence clarity definitely and the choice of how much (the degree) and when to change over the revelatory information to procedural information ought to be left to the L2 students. Jennifer Jenkins (2000) contends that the assimilatory procedure will be obtained normally if students progress in their insight and control of the language is adequate to empower them to accelerate the pace of their discourse. In this way we comprehend that a students obtaining of information in one region would emphatically influence his exhibition in another region, and that despite the fact that most if not the entirety of this is famously learnable with introduction to a L1 air, it isn't generally workable. The models for instructing associated discourse would be shown up at by watching the openness to instruction learnability scale. What the L 2 students need now could be a recreation of the maternal discourse to youngsters à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¦ moms shift back and forth among explained and mutilated structures and this appears to empower the kids to create rules of correspondence between the model and misshaped structures they will regularly experience (Ratner 1984). Uncovering the L2 students to both cautious informal discourse and fast conversational discourse could assist them with understanding these assortments at a revelatory level and subsequently position them for a procedural advancement at their own pace. Indian students of English (ILE) are new to the associated discourse include absorption. It is amusing to take note of that, upon the festival of the United States of America picking up their autonomy from England, there was no bank in presence in the previous provinces. As states of England, they had fallen under the Bank of England, and utilized the British types of cash, as their lawful delicate (Rothbard 47). Undeniably increasingly normal, be that as it may, was exchange the type of deal of things, for example, beaver hide and wampum, just as tobacco and rice (Rothbard 48). Called ââ¬Å"commodity moneyâ⬠, it served the necessities of the homesteaders during exchange with one another, particularly in peripheral country territories; in any case, a real legitimate delicate was required, it was discovered, when exchanging urban communities or in an outside market with different nations. In this way the recently framed states had to get cash from different nations to go about as their own money; in a little while, Spanish doubloons contended close by French, Portug uese, and Brazilian coins for delicate (Rothbard 49). This debate was illuminated when, in 1781, the Bank of North America was established by Roger Morris in Philadelphia (Foster 176). As the main bank set up on the new soil, its essential point was to fund the American Revolution, just as streamline the utilization of money. Its essential point was to do this by utilizing the cash that it was paid by investors as credits to other people, regularly at a few times the measure of money available (Foster 176). It succeeded outstandingly in the two territories, making advances to the legislature as well as private residents, and was immediately trailed by more banks. To avoid the spotlight of the seething discussion of whether Congress had the force, under the Articles of Confederation, it acquired a sanction from the State of Pennsylvania, which was ceaselessly restored until the bank entered the national financial framework (Foster 178). This bank was immediately trailed by different banks, including the Bank of Massachusetts, built up in 1784, the Bank of New York, likewise established in 1784, and the Bank of the Manhattan Company, established by Aaron Burr under the mask of an organization that was to gracefully unadulterated water to New York City (Foster 179). While the entirety of this was going on, a discussion was seething in the new Congress. Alexander Hamilton, Secretary of the Treasury, required a national bank, expressing it was expected to deal with the administration cash and to control the credit of the country (Johnson 7). Thomas Jefferson contended that there was no arrangement for a national bank in the U.S. Constitution, subsequently it was not inside the intensity of Congress to make one (Johnson 7). Hamilton, after long conversations on the way that the new government had made financial powers previously, and along these lines owed it to the individuals to practice some command over them, won the contention and the First Bank of the United States was deckmucomria1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/18112359000988999845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063222127604528594.post-23242671894124499242020-08-21T20:23:00.001-07:002020-08-21T20:23:07.895-07:00Independence for women EssayFreedom of ladies Speaking of womenââ¬â¢s autonomy, individuals will think about the picture that ladies resolved to fght with men in working environment. This is especially true when you are writing on topics on compare and contrast. You need to really have a good grasp of the differences between the two in order to be able to make the strongest argument for what you believe. The first thing you should do before you start writing is to look at the topics you are going to write about. You need to get your mind around the differences between these two things. Make sure that when you are writing that you have a solid idea of what they are, if not it will become very difficult to make a good comparison. This will ensure that you don't end up repeating yourself and that your essay will be more effective.Once you have the topic in mind, make sure that you understand the key differences between the two and put those into your essay. While this is n ot always possible, at least a general outline of the topic and the key differences will give you some idea. This will then make it easier to put together a comparison.Once you have a plan of comparison and you know how to put it all together you can start writing. There are plenty of ways to do this, but be careful not to repeat yourself. If you do this it will be very easy to lose your reader and nobody wants to read a repetitive essay. When you have an outline of your topics on compare and contrast essay, this will make it much easier to remember where you are in the essay. You may even find that you are able to jump from one point to another much easier than you could with something you just started writing. This is especially true if you find that you are skipping back and forth between the topics and the comparisons and you get frustrated with writing it out. After you have made a plan of what you are going to say in your essay, it will be easier to make connections. This will a lso make it easier to move from one paragraph to the next as you go along. It will become easier to add ideas as you go and you will be able to come up with better arguments. In order to make your comparisons and your essay more effective, you should try to use a variety of different approaches. For example, you could use contrasting features to compare one feature with another. You could use categories to compare one category with another. You can also use different words to compare different features or you can use adjectives to compare the same features. Whatever you do, make sure that you get your head around the ideas you are trying to get across to your reader. Otherwise you are bound to miss out on a lot of the target audience when you struggle to make sense of the ideas that you put forward. deckmucomria1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/18112359000988999845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063222127604528594.post-2064123862260163442020-06-29T02:57:00.001-07:002020-06-29T02:57:02.927-07:00Refrigerated Platelets Explore The Use Of Refrigerated Platelets - 825 WordsRefrigerated Platelets: Explore The Use Of Refrigerated Platelets (Article Critique Sample) Content: Refrigerated PlateletsNameSummaryRecent studies show the determination of scientists to explore the use of refrigerated platelets to treat patients with acute bleeding.Although the use of cold platelets was discontinued about four decades ago, contemporary medical needs have necessitated the re-invention of the practice. According to Reddoch et al. [1] successful experiment, higher functional assay and clotting ability associated with platelets stored at4 C when compared to platelets stored under standard conditions. Additionally, platelets stored at near room temperature have higher risks of bacterial infection and poor homeostatic ability. Conversely, this study revealed that cold stored platelets have better adhesion capacity and faster fibrin formation making them significant in immediate homeostasis. Moreover, the study showed that refrigerated platelets have the superior metabolic ability and form stronger clots than both fresh and room temperature stored platel ets [1]. However, only 80% of the refrigerated platelets survived to day 5 showing a reduction in platelet count. In similar studies [2, 3] the quality and viability of refrigerated platelets were confirmed asserting that these platelets can be utilized clinically to treat hypotension. Room temperature stored platelets tend to form poor and weak clots in addition to their susceptibility to bacterial contamination.Critical ReviewPlatelets prepared by the apheresis method are commonly used in the United States, 85% and 50% in Europe making them primary platelets used in the research. The specific aim as to establish whether apheresis platelets stored at 4C yielded better homeostatic, metabolic, and functional success when compared to platelets stored at room temperature. Freshly collected platelets were subjected to different treatments in order to establish the expected results to make sound inferences. One portion of the sample was stored at 4 without agitation while the other was s tored at room temperature in an incubator with agitation. Other studies have confirmed that agitation does not affect the function or metabolic activity of refrigerated platelets contrary to those stored at room temperature [2, 3]. The researchers performed several analytical assays on fresh and stored AP including blood gas analysis, thromboelastography, impedance aggregometry, expression of surface receptors, and ELISA. Lastly, ANOVA was used to analyze the collected data to determine the statistical suitability of cold platelets in immediate homeostasis. The results showed a significant reduction in platelet count for the samples stored at 4C, which was also prone to clumping. Conversely, platelet count for samples stored at room temperature remained the same on the fifth day. Statistically, 20% of the refrigerated platelets did not survive during the storage period, and the clumping effect was reduced by placing the stored platelets in full-sized bags [1]. MPV remained the same f or both refrigerated and room temperature stored platelets [1]. The pH and in the stored platelets remained within the acceptable levels while lactate increased in the refrigerated samples. Room temperature platelets showed a significant reduction in lactate and glucose levels and increased levels of carbon dioxide. On the other hand, cold platelets displayed remarkable aggregation when compared to fresh and platelets stored at room temperature [1]. The results for platelet activation markers showed increased expression of P-selectin in samples stored at 4 and room temperature. However, the refrigerated platelets expressed higher levels of CD62P showing that these platelets have better adherence than room temperature stored platelets. Furthermore, there was no noticeable difference between cold platelets under agitation and non-agitated samples. This shows that 4C-stored platelets responded better to activating stimuli than those stored uder standard conditions. Most importantly, 4C -stored platelets portrayed faster clotting ability due to the rapid formation of fibrin. In comparison, room temperature stored platelets showed poor and weak clot formation with a further susceptibility to lysis. The study inferred better metabolic and functional performance of 4 stored platelets as compared to platelets stored at room temperature. This deduction holds that 4 stored apheresis platelets are most appropriate to stop acute hemorrhage in patients. Furthermore, decreased temperatures reduce the risk of bacterial and fungal contamination on cold platelets. According to the performed analysis, cold platelets are better suited for therapeutic purposes compared to room temperature stored and normal platelets especially when immediate homeostasis is paramount. The results of this study concur in vivo findings of a research conducted by Torres and associates regarding the suitability of cold platelets in thrombus formation [2]. Moreover, the research found insights that cold platelets have better adhesive capacity when compared to platelets stored under standard conditions. In fact, greed, at times leads specific individuals in history to become power hungry; in their search for power, their greed is usually never satisfied and their journey carries them through an unfortunate trail to unhappiness, isolation, and betrayal. Leaders in history like Hitler, Napolean, Machiavelli, and Richard Nixon showed great potential to be positively influential, but their power-hungry motives motivated them to be driven by uncontrollable avarice. As a result, people often turn to a lifestyle searching for gratification and, consequently, gain nothing. In response to the aforementioned claim, King Lear andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The power of greed over life and death is substantial in the unfolding of the story. At the conclusion of the play, King Lear hears of his daughter, Cordeliaââ¬â¢s death and feels extreme regret. If his greed did not initially give his daughters, Goneril and Regan, undeserved authority over him, Cordeliaââ¬â¢s life may have been saved. Once again King Lear finds himself isolated and helpless and moans: Howl, howl, howl! Macroeconomics deals with economic factors such as total national output and income, unemployment, balance of payments, and the rate of inflation. It is distinct from microeconomics, which is the study of the composition of output such as the supply and demand for individual goods and services, the way they are traded in markets, and the pattern of their relative prices. At the basis of macroeconomics is an understanding of what constitutes national output, or national income, and the related concept of gross national product (GNP). Such an obstacle could be, for example, trade union action to maintain minimum wages or minimum-wage legislation. Keyness major innovation was to argue that persistent unemployment might be caused by a deficiency in demand for production or services, rather than by a disequilibrium in the labor market. Such a deficiency of demand could be explained by a failure of planned (intended) investment to match planned (intended) savings. Savings constitute a leakage in the circular flow by which the incomes earned in the course of producing goods or services are transferred back into demand for other goods and services. A leakage in the circular flow of incomes would tend to reduce the level of total demand. Real investment, known as capital formation (the production of machines, factories, housing, and so on), has the opposite effect-it is an injection into the circular flow relating income to output-and tends to raise the level of demand. Much like the modern audiences of movies today, these often-fantasized tales captivated their listeners and gave a microscopic glimpse into the culture of the medieval period. Today, there is no doubt that 21st century America is a vast and very divergent world than that of the writers of early British literature. However, nearly a thousand years after the original stories were written, American culture is still greatly influenced by these early Anglo-Saxon stories of heroism. Contemporary adaptations of these films combine these stories with the thrill of the dramatic cinema and the modern idealââ¬â¢s of western culture to tame theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This ancient depiction of Grendel contrasts the contemporary version in the film. Gunnersson characterizes Grendel as human. In the clip it appears that Grendel is more of a ââ¬Å"sasquatch,â⬠a Neanderthal ty pe of man who is completely uncivilized, than a monster (Gunnersson, 2005). As Grendel enters Herot, he emits a sort of ââ¬Å"war cry.â⬠He seems to have prepared for the battle in the previous scene smearing his face with paint and beating his chest (Gunnersson, 2005) proposing that perhaps he planned the attack. This is very different from the medieval depiction of the monstrous Grendel. The ancient text does not give Grendel the credit of being a ââ¬Å"warrior.â⬠In the text, his attacks are based solely on jealousy and anger; he is motivated by a very primal urge to fight. Grendel attacks his victims like an animal and eats their remains (Heaney, 2008). However, in the film Grendel enters Herot with a war cry, in a way announcing to the men that he is there and ready to fight (Gunnersson, 2005). He immediately begins to engage Beowulfââ¬â¢s men in battle. He assails the men one by one beating them over the heads and even snapping their necks, appearing very skilled at hand to hand combat (Gunnersson, 2005). During his conflict with Beowulfââ¬â¢s men, Grendel makes eye contact with a man and utters a word (Gunnersson, 2005). While the word is unclear and seems to be in a sort of ââ¬Å"foreign language,â⬠it is still language. Stepparents tend to not give the attention their step children need. Also, they might abuse their step children by maltreating them. Being in a stepfamily environment can affect the children as they grow older. Each and every year there are more children experiencing their parentsââ¬â¢ divorce and living in a stepparent family. If a child is maltreated as they grow older they may elicit criminal and antisocial behaviors. It is predicted that children who are exposed to a stepfamily environment are more at risk to juvenile offending, nicotine dependence, sexual risk taking, and other types of negative behavior. Although the results from my research did not support most of what other researchers have found. We did find support on sexual risk taking. Effects of Living in a Blended Family vs. Non-Blended Family There has been much research done on children growing up in stepfamily environments and not all results were the same. Some researchers have found evidence that girls are less well-adjusted than boys in parental remarriage and in other cases the opposite was reported, where boys were less well-adjusted than girls (Nicholson, Fergusson, 1999). There have been other studies focused on the stepparents and have found that they are more depressed than non-stepparents which is affecting the children since they do not put much attention to them as they normally should (Dunn, Deater-Deckard, 1998). In the 1960ââ¬â¢s almost 75% of all children were living with their biological parents and married to each other (Dawson, 1991). stepparent Dunn and Deater-Deckard (1998) mentioned that the stepparents are more depressed than non-stepparents. There is no actual reason for why that is, but this causes the depressed stepparent more likely to not respond sensitively to the childrenââ¬â¢s needs. In this case the parents will not monitor effectively the behavior of their kids. The kids will begin to notice when this is happening which might be one of the causes of the childrenââ¬â¢s negative behavior. Children will begin to behave differently at home and school. This may lead to more freedom and less adult supervision for the child. If the child is in their teens they might begin to skip school and start falling behind in their school work. Other studies have researched that stepparents show less concern than the biological parents. Parents that show low degrees of parent love towards a step child should be more likely to abuse the child. Having a stepparent increases the risks for a child to be abused in any way, shape, or form. This can be explained by the kin selection theory, also known as the Cinderella effect (Temrin, Nordlund, Rying, Tullberg, 2011). When children do not get the attention and care they need, they begin to fall behind socially and academically as well. This not only affects the childââ¬â¢s mental health but their future to dream and to continue their education. Child maltreatment may lead to criminality in general when they grow older. In a study done it was concluded that ââ¬Å"â⬠¦severe maltreatment of children is often associated with other criminal and antisocial behavior, both inside and outside the familyâ⬠(Temrin et al. , 2011). This means that if children grow up being maltreated whether they are in a stepfamily environment or not they are more likely to commit a criminal activity and have antisocial behavior. Having said that, children that are exposed to stepparents they are more likely to have been maltreated; therefore, they are more likely to be involved with criminal and antisocial behavior. Children being exposed to living in a stepfamily between the ages of 6 and 16 are more at risk to juvenile offending, nicotine dependence, abuse or dependence on illicit substances, leaving school, early onset of sexual activity, and having multiple sexual partners. These children also scored lower on teacher ratings of social competence and academic performance. They had more school absences, tardiness, and discipline problems than those students from non-stepfamilies (Nicholson, Fergusson, 1999). Throughout the years children living in a stepfamily environment have increased. Back in the 1960s the percentage of children living with both their biological parents was up to 75% dropping to about 56% in 1990s. It has been predicted that one-fourth of todayââ¬â¢s children will spend some time with a stepfamily; one-third will experience their parents divorce, and half living with a single parent by the age of 16. Studies have found that children from divorced families have more problems than children from one parent families or biological parents (Dawson, 1991). Current Study It is predicted that students from blended families will have more negative behaviors, such as, sexual risk taking, nicotine dependence, juvenile offending, etc. , and more school problems. The purpose of this study is to provide the effects of children living in a stepfamily environment and. If they did grow up in a stepfamily, comparing them to the other participants that grew up with their biological parents and see if there is an effect on their academic performance or if they have any past criminal or antisocial behavior. Methods Participants College students from Eastern Washington University will be participating in this study. It is predicted that students that have been in stepfamily settings will have history with some problems. And students living with both their biological parent Materials There will be a survey conducted online asking participants how well they have done academically, determining it by asking their cumulative GPA. There will be other questions such as if they were introduced to a stepfamily during ages 6 to 16 years of age since these are the ages that are affected the most while during their development. Then, there are questions about using illegal substances, alcohol use as a minor, and if they have ever been arrested will be asked. Procedure This study will only be posted online and will be conducted in Eastern Washington University. It will be open to all students of Eastern Washington University currently attending. This will be an online survey where students will have a choice of taking it or not. If they decide to take it they will choose the URL link that will take them to the survey. Since this will be an anonymous survey and it will not affect them in any way, they will be asked to answer as honest as they can. Also, they will be told that they do not need to answer certain questions if the participant does not feel comfortable answering them. After the participants have taken the survey I will review all the answers that the participants answered with a group of classmates. I will separate all of the students into groups. The groups will be separated by how their biological parentsââ¬â¢ current status is. If their parents are married they will go there, if their parents are divorced they will go there and etc. after doing this I will compare if they have any criminal or antisocial behavior. It is predicted that the students that were introduced to step families during the ages of 6 to 16 will be the ones with the more struggle and the negative behavior that was talked about earlier. Results The students were placed into two groups which were blended and non-blended families. They were placed into blended families if they had been introduced to stepfamily environment at any point of their life before age 18. If they were not introduced into a stepfamily environment before age 18 they were placed in the non-blended group. These two groups were compared in their sexual activity score, working during college, and drug scores using an independent-samples t test. In the sex score, the mean of the blended family was higher (m=13. 800, sd=4. 970) than non-blended family group (m=9. 714, sd=2. 091). With the working students, the mean of the blended family was lower (m=12. 286, sd=3. 546) than the non-blended family (m=13. 063, sd=3. 623). Finally, in the last comparison was the use of drugs, where the mean of the blended family was lower (m=17. 286, sd=3. 988) than the non-blended family (m=19. 500, sd=5. 416). The results found on students having to work during college and using drugs was not significant when comparing them to their living environments. We would retain the null hypothesis when it comes to these two findings mentioned. But for the students sexual activity there was significance. When comparing the blended family and the non-blended family to their sexual activity there was a significant difference between them (t(17)=2. 592, p . 05). The mean was significantly higher in the blended family than in the non-blended family. Discussion It was predicted that students that were exposed to a stepfamily environment were more likely to have more negative behaviors such as drug abuse, more sexual activity, etc. Our findings were that there was a significant difference in the sexual activity, but did not find a significant difference with the drug or criminal activity. Compared to previous findings some of my results were insignificant compared to them. Dawson (1991) had found kids from blended families being more aggressive and had higher rates of substance abuse which was not consistent with the results I had. Although, Dawsonââ¬â¢s has found children growing up in a stepfamily environment in before the age of 16 were more sexually active. Dunn and Deater-Deckard (1998) found that children growing up in stepfamilies were at greater risk for adjustment problems than those in families with the two biological parents. Other studies have found outcomes due to being in a stepfamily environment which include mental health problems, antisocial behavior, substance use and abuse, restricted education and employment outcomes, and sexual risk taking (Nicholson, Fergusson, 1999). There were a few limitations to this experiment where there was not enough participants to have better results in our findings. Even with a limited sample we found a significant difference with some of our results. The findings were that the participants who were more sexually active were the students who had been exposed to a stepfamily environment. Sixty-five percent of our participants were female. About sixty percent were between the ages of 22 and 23. About 80% were Caucasian. This study was done so others can see how a stepfamily environment can affect a child before the age of 18 and how they can prevent these effects on their children. Before introducing their children to a stepfamily, the parent should research how to take precautions in presenting another family to them that will affect them in any way or form. This way the child gets the attention they need and deserve from their parents. The parents should also be aware of all the risks and supervise their child as needed. During the ages from 6 to 16 years of age children need a lot of their parentsââ¬â¢ attention and parents should be extremely aware of that. Interest rates Interest rates also play an important role to the TNB. Since for a small rise of the interest rate may influnce the profit to become loss. I was read the article from Noor Yahaya Hamzah. In the article, I was seen that TNB was had a huge debt on 2005. Let assume TNB was had 30 billion bank loans, and 1% of the interest rate with the 1. 2billion profit. 1 percent of 30 billion is 300million, so the profit will have 900million. But when the interest rate was increased from 1% to 4%, the 4 percent of the 300million is 1. 2billion, so the TNB will get loss for this year. Exchange Rates The location of the bussiness also one of the factors to get more profit or get loss for a business. Since different location will have different currency, so that will have a different exchange rates also. For example when the payment is 100million Pound, and the recently exchange rate is 4. 8404 that mean TNB need to pay RM 484. 04million, but if the exchange rate is for last time is around 7. 0+/- that mean TNB need to pay around RM 700million for the 100 million pound. There is a huge different which can make it get profit or loss for this payment. Taxation When the taxation increase, the profit of the company will decrease. For example, 25% taxation recently, RM 300 million will get 75million taxation fees, but 28% taxation will get 84million taxation fees. There are 9million expenses for the company, just the small changes of the taxation rates. But when the taxation rate increase, the expenses of the company will increase also, they will spend their to buy machine, vehicle and others utilities to decrease the profit they get, so that no need to pay too much tax. By this the profit of the TNB will increase, since for the machine or the other utilies such as electrical products will increase the usage of the electrical. Inflation When the inflation rate increase, the demand of the consumer will decrease. For example the air conditional is RM 1000 last time, now already increase from RM 1000 to RM 1500, so that not everyone can consume the products which under higher inflation rate. By this the demand of the electrical products or other utilies will decrease. So the demand of the electricity will decrease also. Therefore the profit of TNB will decrease. Social factors of Tenaga Nasional Berhad TNB is a Malaysia-based electric utility services provider which partially-owned by Malaysia government. Until the mid nineteen twenties, most generating plants were small and used a variety of fuel including low grade coal, local wood, charcoal and important oil as well as water power. Large scale planning, huge sums of capital from overseas and hiring of foreign technical experts increase because of rapid increase in electricity demands. Now,TNB has an installed capacity of 11,941 Megawatts (MW) and operates thermal and hydro electric plants. The company operates six thermal stations and three major hydroelectric schemes. Tnb responsible for deliver adequate, safe, reliable and continuous power supply for core businesses and operations which is essential for development of the country. To ensure this delivery, TNB has invested some RM4 billion annually for new infrastructures and technology such as the building of new transmission lines, power plants or substations. As a leading power supply company,TNB also doing more social work than any other coperal company in Malaysia. Tnbââ¬â¢sCorporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy is founded on philanthropy in key areas such as education, sports, the environment and helping the underprivileged. In 2008,Tnb become one of the largest corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) contributors in Malaysia by spending more than 1. 9 billion ringgit for social activities. In education,Tnb provide many scholarship to student and researchers through Yayasan Tenaga Nasional(YTN). Tnb also providing education through Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and Institut Latihan Sultan Ahmad Shah (ILSAS). Strategic cooperation between UNITEN and the industrial sector provides access and opportunities for students and academic staff to master knowledge as well as scientific and technical expertise that are relevant with industrial and market place needs. In sports,Tnb is the main supporter for hockey. In 2007, TNB contributed RM1. 1 million to the Malaysian Olympic Council which was channeled to the Malaysian Hockey Federations (MHF) for development of hockey sport in the country. In 2008, TNB become major sponsor for the 2008 Malaysian Game (SUKMA) which held in Terengganu. TNB is also the main sponsor for cricket in the country. Besides that,Tnb also shows their responsibility on environment by helping to conserve nature in the surrounding areas. TNBs major contribution can be seen in the Companys efforts in the preservation of the firefly colony in Kampung Kuantan in Kuala Selangor by providing 1. 5 billion for the protection of firefly. This species of firefly flickers in unison creating a natural lightshow after dark along the Kuala Selangor riverbank. TNB also involve in research on the lampyridae firefly lifecycle. Technologicalà à à à à à (Yogeswary) Environmental factors of Tenaga Nasional Berhad The increasing public concern over the state of global environment has caused business organizations to give more considerations to the nature environment. In fact, environmental issues are a challenge for business organizations. Due to increasing awareness and pressure from the public, many corporations today have in some way disclosed environmental information. The most common way undertaken by companies to disseminate environmental information to the public is through the corporate annual report. Electricity plays a very important role in human lives as well as the wellbeing of economics activities of any country. Undeniably, electricity is a critical input sustaining Malaysia economic growth and development and wellbeing of its people. Without electricity, everything in life will be interrupted and crippled. TENAGA NASIONAL BERHAD which can also call as TNB is dedicated to increase efficiency in its business operations and generation technologies; consistent with a reasonable tariff and persistently upholding the need to care for our environment. Major environmental issues arising from electricity production include water impacts, generation of wastes, and the disruption of land uses. Due to significant environmental degradation caused by electricity production, it is important that electricity providers becoming more transparent in reporting the environmental implications of their operations. By acknowledging environmental issues in their annual report, electricity providers depict a sense of accountable towards the stakeholders and are more responsible for future generation. This study attempts to examine the environmental reporting or disclosure practice of TENAGA NASIONAL BERHAD (TNB), the largest electricity producer in Malaysia. Social factors of Tenaga Nasional Berhad Legal environment related to the surroundings of the firm location and operations. Thus, environmental law such as Environmental Quality Act of 1974. This law ensures the firm does not pollute or cause harm to the surroundings and ultimately the environment. Legal issues can both be advantage and disadvantage. Disadvantages could be affecting the firms cost and R amp;D. Advantages can be obtained such as going green and save our environment. Categories of Laws: Health and safety legislation: * Occupational Safety and Health: to secure safety, health and welfare of a person at work. Consumer laws: * National Consumer Policy: focus is the formulation of national economic and social policies based on enhancing consumer benefit. Competition laws: * Copyright Act 1987: to ensure the trademark of the company not affected and copied by other competitors to promote their product. Being the sole major provider of electricity in Malaysia, Tenaga Nasional Berhad have a little to no competition when it comes to Malaysia. Tenaga Nasional Berhad also owns one of Malaysias private universities: Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), which have to compete with other universities for students every semester and that market is more wide and price sensitive compared to the electrical distribution one for TNB but its still not where it specializes. Since Tenaga Nasional Berhad is a government linked company and has been around for as long as Malaysians can remember, it has developed a trusted relationship with the public, but raising the prices, or too much Power outages are sure to backlash badly on both the company and the governments image even if the circumstances that made that happen are out of their hands , which in any case the government must work to prevent and that is sure to keep the prices in check. To conclude, the buyers power is Moderate because of the no major alternatives when it comes to electricity distributions in Malaysia and the governments deep involvement which must look out after its citizens situation. Competitive Rivalry Rivalry among competing firms in an industry is not uncommon feature. This is because each firm in an industry is jockeying for a better position than the other competing firms. A strategic move by one competitor can only be successful to the extent that the moves provide competitive advantage over the rival firms. However, when the rival firms retaliate with counter strategic moves, like reducing the price, intense advertising, provide high quality, superior product warranty, and many others, this could dampen the earlier move of the firm in the industry. Thus, the nature of competition would be intense and could be heightened with the presence of one or some of these factors. Tenaga Nasional Berhad is a independent power producer such as YTL, Genting Sanyen, PD Power. The competition is expected to get more intense when Asean Free Trade Agreement (AFTA) which was implemented in 2005 that allow other ASEAN countries transformer manufacturers free to enter Malaysian market. A TNB group company is seen to form majority of Malaysia market for distribution transformers and as a result, the survival of the local manufacturers are solely depending on TNB group requirement. TNB will have to increase their efficiency in conducting their business to ensure their sustainability in the business such as low operational cost or increase the capacity of the power supply. There are some high exit barriers for the Tenaga Nasional Berhad that is once the company has already enter the utility business, the capitals invested in the assets are very high and specialised in the utility business. Top competitors of the Tenaga Nasional Berhad are CLP Holding Limited (Kowloon, Hong Kong), The Furukawa Electric Co. LTD(Tokyo, Japan), International Power PLC(London, UK). Industries where Tenaga Nasional Berhad competes are electric utilities, business services sector, construction sector, architectural and engineering services, speciality contractors, lectrical products manufacturing. Threat of Substitution Tenaga Nasional Berhad(TNB), power supplier that monopoly the power supply all over Peninsular Malaysia, where Malaysia government is the major shareholders of the company through Ministry of Finance. TNB have collaboration with Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) and Sarawak Electricity Supply Corp (SESCo). Although, TNB is dominating the power supply market, with transmission and distribution equipment from foreign gigantic companies, such as ABB, Siemens and Samsung, the probability threat of substitution is still strong enough to overcome the domination of TNB in power supply market. IPPââ¬â¢s who contributing to power supply of TNB, can be a indirect competitors in short term and can be a direct and strong competitor in future long run. In conclusion, the threat of substitution exist for TNB, but the percentage is too small, because TNB had hold the majority of Total Addressable Market Size of power supply in Peninsular Malaysia. Threat of new entry First of all, our government will decide whether to allow new entrants to enter in the electrical power industry or not. This is due to industries such as utilities are considered natural monopoly. Natural monopoly means that if a single firm is the only seller in the market, then the costs of utilities are minimized to the customers. Thus, it is more efficient if one company provide electric power in a region rather than few electric companies. To prevent utilities from make use of this advantage, the government permits monopoly but regulates the industry. Besides, the barriers to entry in the electrical power industry is high because any new comer will need high capital investment in Research amp; Development (Ramp;D), Technology and marketing in order to compete with organizations which are present in the industry. As of 2011, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has six thermal power stations and three major hydroelectric power generating plants in peninsular Malaysia. In addition, TNB reduces transmission loss up to 2. 8% by introducing low loss conductor as of year 2011. Furthermore, TNB covers end-to-end services such as repairing, testing, maintaining power plants, assembling and manufacturing high voltage switch gears and etc. The new entrants might be lack of proprietary technology such that to become a player in the industry. Hence, the threat of new entrants is very unlikely as the start up cost of entering the industry needs a lot of investment. On the other hand, TNB is in the electrical power industry for more than 60 years. It has more experience in this industry than any other electrical company in Malaysia such as Sabah Electricity Sdn. Bhd and Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation. Hence, it has gained trust and loyalty from its customers especially in peninsular Malaysia. In order to earn customers trust, new entrants will take very long term or they should come out with some innovative plan. deckmucomria1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/18112359000988999845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063222127604528594.post-25243734223555931582020-04-14T07:23:00.001-07:002020-04-14T07:23:04.404-07:00Sample Personal Essay For Criminal Justice ScholarshipSample Personal Essay For Criminal Justice ScholarshipYou should consider completing a sample personal essay for a criminal justice scholarship. They are two very deferent people but manage to still be friends despite. During the course of the book, it becomes evident Genes envy for Finny. However given the nature of Gene and Fannys personalities It Is almost Impossible for Gene to not envy Finny. Gene Is an excellent academic student, but feels that he needs something more. When looking at his Myers-Briggs personality type he seems to fit into that category off JIFFS. These types of people are said to care for people and work endlessly on heir behalf. They have the need to please others and feel needed. This applies to Gene with his very co-dependent relationship with Finny. He wants to desperately to be what Finny is. And a soaring sense of freedom revealed that this must have been my purpose from the first: to become a part of Phonies. (77) I believe that Gene desperately wants to fit in and be liked and will please anyone to do so, but not without resentment being held. When looking at the Myers-Briggs test I would classify him as an FEND. These types of people are said to be warm and enthusiastic people, and good at almost anything they put their mind to. Finny has a certain hold over people, especially Gene. Gene begins to realize this when he thinks What was I doing up here anyway? Why did I let Finny talk me into stupid things like this? Was he getting some kind of hold over me? (9) Finny doesnt mean to be manipulative or have a hold over people he is genuine in his desire to make things more fun for others. When looking at Gene and Finny as individuals you see two very different people. You see Gene as someone who feels the desire to please people but is not satisfied with himself, and Finny as someone who Is a fantastic athlete and possesses an undeniable charm. Because of Gene and Flybys close relationship, Finny Is the person Gene decides to want to be Instead of himself. This desire ultimately translates into envy. When Gene starts to become aware of this new he justifies it by eying its a mutual rivalry. Yes, I sensed it like the sweat of relief when nausea passes away; I felt better. We were even after all, even in enmity. The deadly rivalry was on both sides after all. (54) Gene believes that because he is Jealous of Fannys athletic capabilities, that Finny must in return be Jealous of Genes academic achievements. When Finny falls off the tree due to Gene shaking it, at first Gene feels a sense of liberation as opposed to guilt, because in a way he has defeated Finny. Once Finny can no longer be a great athlete the feeling of envy is temporarily lifted. Gene and Finny start to work together as a unit, helping the other where they are weak. When Finny dies, Gene is satisfied because he will finally live on to be Finny. In a Separate Peace the human nature of envy Is looked at. Gene feels an abnormally large resentment and envy towards Finny, whereas Finny seems to initially feel no envy at all towards Gene. He had been working for the company for six months and prior to this projects he had been doing to good job for the company. This new recruitment project was Carl responsibility and he was accountable for its implementation. Carl had to report to Monica Carrol, operation manager, who was the beneficiary of the extra supply of labor. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the events that occurred at ABC during the hiring process of 15 new employees in order to find solution on how to ABC can improve its human resource function and directly deal with the mishaps associated with recruiting event. Carl took on this recruiting project for which he felt confident he could perform without any setbacks. He was not recruiting a single employee. His job entailed hiring 15 people. There no specific details on the case study on whether or not Monica obligated him to perform a fast-track recruiting process. In order to hire 15 employees Carl should have interviewed 5 to 10 candidates per position. This implies that he needed to perform over 100 interviews. Prior to selecting an interview Carl was suppose to look at 200-500 resumes to select the 15 trainees. This hypothetical metrics would be adequate for skilled workers. If the 15 jobs were unskilled workers 100 interviews would be satisfactory. Under a rush scenario for unskilled labor at least 50 interviews would have to perform which comes out to about 3 interviews per job position There also other procedures associated with a recruiting process. The 5 steps of a selection process are: application materials, employment interviews, tests, background investigation, and decision to hire. deckmucomria1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/18112359000988999845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063222127604528594.post-61274780534255564972020-02-07T13:32:00.001-08:002020-02-07T13:32:02.837-08:00The Alibaba Group Holding Limited and the Aspect of Disruption EssayThe Alibaba Group Holding Limited and the Aspect of Disruption - Essay Example Notable is that innovation within human societies is as old as history itself. However, it is only from the 19th Century onwards that the greatest level of human advancement vis-à -vis the period has taken has exceedingly amplified. This has, in turn, influenced the manner in which enterprises conduct their business, especially in the face of increased global competition. As a Chinese e-commerce firm-entity, the Alibaba Group Holding Limited provides platforms on which online sales services can be safely conducted, via available web portals. Most importantly is the crucial element of continuous technological advancement (Schepp & Schepp, 2010). This has availed a platform on which business can be effectively and efficiently conducted online, with some form of security assurance. With enhanced cybersecurity measures, and a growth in consumer confidence in e-commerce has availed a robust and lucrative market arena that remains significantly untapped (Nonaka & Zhu, 2012). As an entity concerned primarily with the provision of sales services, i.e. business-to-business, consumer-to-business or consumer-to-consumer basis, the Alibaba Group is also a provider of other services. These include data-centric cloud computing services, a very successful shopping search engine and electronic payment services. It is important to note that the entity is sector-specific, with its business strategy focusing on technology-supported and enhanced service provision. Taobao, Alibabaââ¬â¢s consumer-to-consumer internet portal is similar to Americaââ¬â¢s eBay.com. Due to the large-scale nature of the Chinese market arena, the entity features almost a billion products and brands, targeting the multi-billion consumer market. Globally, the website is amongst the 20 most-visited, accounting for over 60% of all parcels delivered in the PRC (Gifford, 2013). This in itself attests to the rapid uptake it hasà experienced in this market, further influencing future strategies of market venturing and expansion.à deckmucomria1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/18112359000988999845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063222127604528594.post-26608045204924073662020-01-29T09:06:00.001-08:002020-01-29T09:06:04.570-08:00School Ethos and Policies Essay Example for Free School Ethos and Policies Essay The phrase above is the schoolââ¬â¢s ethos and was inspired following collaboration with the children, staff and governors of the school; with all believing and accepting they have an equal part to play in ensuring all children have a right to quality first teaching. It is felt that the ethos reflects the vision of the school community and yet it is easy to be remembered and understood by all. It is used regularly to praise the children of their positive actions and if necessary remind them of what is expected of them. The schools aim is ââ¬ËTo develop a shared love of learning between our children, staff and parents and the wider community. The schoolââ¬â¢s ethos is displayed outside the school building so even visitors and the wider community know what are aims are. The ethos appears on letters that are sent home, on the school website, in every class and in the hall. The children eat in the hall, with different members of staff also eating there in order to maintain sensible behaviour but also to enjoy the more informal time to chat together. We have assemblies in the hall, often inviting members of the wider community to hold assemblies; there have been cookery demonstrations, the police have been in to talk about internet safety and local religious practitioners give assemblies. The aims and ethos are reinforced in assembly as children share work, achievements and stories; learning from one another and from a variety of adults. The Schoolââ¬â¢s rules support the ethos and aims; and are displayed in prominent places in the classroom and corridors so they are visible to all. (image 1)* We use kind hands and words * We are safe and sensible at work and play * We listen and work and learn together * We look after our school. Image 1 Image 2 The staff have an important responsibility in modelling standards of behaviour both with the children and with each other as colleagues as it is their example that has such an influence on the children. An optimistic and positive environment should be emphasised by all adults in the school to encourage children through example to have relationships based on fairness, kindness and understanding of the needs of the other children within the school. The staff attend regular meetings to share good practice, monitor the childrenââ¬â¢s learning and work cooperatively; they also attend INSET days to learn together. The children communicate the ethos and aims to visitors through their exemplary behaviour and joy at sharing their learning with each other, visitors and their families. We have class sharing assemblies for parents and families to see examples of current learning and for the children to talk about what they are doing in class. Families are always welcome to leave messages in the message books and they are also welcome to come in to school as parent helpers, help on school outings or to come in and share their skills e.g. RSPCA officer, fireman, grandparent to talk about being an evacuee. The school has a behaviour ââ¬Ëtraffic lightââ¬â¢ system (image 2) which was instigated following discussions with the school council about having a visible system that is a constant reminder to children. Forgiveness is an important element and the fact that it is not the child who needs to change but the behaviour; therefore all children start afresh each day on the green lily pad regardless of anything that occurred on the previous day. Children move their name on to the amber lily pad if they break a school rule and have already been reminded beforehand. They then put a mark next to their name in one of the three circles on their lily pad. A ââ¬Ëthink sheetââ¬â¢ will then be completed by the child in their own time to reflect on the rule they have broken. This also enables the staff to keep a record of behaviours in school and to gain an overall understanding of certain behaviours over time. If that behaviour continues then another mark is made next to the name and the child is sent to the key stage leader and if is still continues the child is sent to see the head teacher to discuss their behaviour. All staff follows the same procedures and all keep a record of children who move in to amber and red. Children are motivated by positive praise. When the whole class remain on green they are awarded a ââ¬Ëletterââ¬â¢. Foundation and KS1ââ¬â¢s letter spell out ââ¬ËSuper classââ¬â¢ and KS2ââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËSuper class awardââ¬â¢. Once a class has received all their letters they are able to choose a class treat. The treat could be a disco, playing board games or talent shows to name a few! Those that get on to the gold lily pad are rewarded with a gold stamp and the child is rewarded with a ââ¬Ëgreat to be goldââ¬â¢ sticker. A child who receives ten gold stamps has a lovely letter sent home. The school communicates its ethos and values to the staff through a number of different policies. The behaviour policy clearly states the guidelines which are to be followed so that each individual child is treated equally. The midday Managers also has a policy which enforces the school rules. Both positive and negative lunchtime behaviour is sanctioned in the same way by the lunchtime assistants so to provide continuity throughout the day. The school also communicates its ethos and values to the staff through the school rules which are displayed clearly throughout the school. I asked a number of parents if they knew what the school ethos and values were. Although they were not able to recite it word for word all knew the synopsis of it. All were also able to tell me that they were aware of it being in all the classrooms, at different points in the school, outside the school and on letters home. Someone also said with the words aside they feel the ethos and values are demonstrated in the way in which the children behave and in the atmosphere as a whole in school. Schools need to ensure that policies are in place and revised on a regular basis. Each policy should show both the date it was updated and also the review date. Model policies are available on the internet through local education authorities and these can assist the school when either drawing them up or when updating them. Both policies and procedures are updated regularly and monitored by senior management team, all staff and governors. The Local Authority and SIP also evaluate school policy regularly. The school also takes the views of parents seriously and will adapt should the need arise. In my opinion it would be interesting to provide feedback to behaviour policies by reviewing the behaviour management folders of each class on a monthly basis. My aim would be to collect the folders and look at the behaviours that are or have been an issue that month. It would obviously differ for each year group as each teacher will have a different behaviour focus and what is regarded as poor behaviour in reception would be totally different in Year 6. However, there may be certain issues repeating themselves across the school such as, forgetting PE kit, being unkind on the playground (anti bullying), not concentrating in class, not bringing reading diary into school. Once I had collated the information I would then analyse it and feedback to the head teacher so that an assembly could focus on the prominent issues so to emphasise the importance of bringing in a PE kit etc. A note could go on the website and also in the newsletter to communicate with parents. Also I would review the rewards achieved and investigate whether these impacted the childââ¬â¢s behaviour in a positive way. The review of the behaviour management folders could also be cross referenced against children who have an abnormal number of absences and also those who arrive late on a regular basis. By monitoring this cohort of children it would highlight if or where intervention may be needed. As a parent governor of the school I am regularly involved in the reviews of policies. I have a responsibility to review and give input to all policies that are being updated. deckmucomria1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/18112359000988999845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063222127604528594.post-42400756702899184452020-01-21T05:30:00.001-08:002020-01-21T05:30:03.664-08:00Biggers Self Realization in Native Son Essay -- Native Son EssaysBigger's Self Realization in Native Son à à à à à à Although today we live in a nation, which has abolished slavery, the gap between the whites and the blacks during the early stages of America's development has plainly carried into the present.à In Native Son, author Richard Wright illustrates this racial gap, in addition to demonstrating how white oppression upon blacks is capable of producing revengeful individuals, not to mention being an immoral act in itself.à Bigger Thomas is one of those individuals, who discovers his capacity to rebel through acts of murder against the white society, which has for long oppressed his family, friends, and himself. à By tracing Bigger's psyche from before the murder of Mary Dalton, into the third book of the novel, and into the subconscious depths of the final scene, the development of Bigger's self realization becomes evident. à à à à à à An entire period of Bigger's life, up until the murder of Mary Dalton, portrays him under a form of slavery, where the white society governs his state of being.à While he worked for the Daltons, "his courage to live depended upon how successfully his fear was hidden from his consciousness"(44), and hate also builds on top of this fear.à Once he is in contact with Mary, his fears and hate pour out in a rebellious act of murder, because to Bigger Mary symbolizes the white oppression.à In addition, he committed the act, "because it had made him feel free for the first time in his life"(255).à At last he feels he is in control of his actions and mentality.à He rebels against the burden of the white man's torment.à He had "been scared and mad all . . . [his] life... ... between Bigger and Max.à Consequently, from this study of Bigger's psyche, it is evident that the "Bigger That Might Have Been" is basically: 'a decent man'; such a result to become of Bigger, however, may only occur if Bigger's father was present, his family was not so impoverished, or even if he had maintained his job working honestly for the Daltons.à To produce the "Bigger That Might Have Been," slavery should never have occurred! à Sources Cited and Consulted Collier-Thomas, John; et al. Overview The aim of this essay is to discuss how successful Leninââ¬â¢s policies were in his attempt to create an alternative modernity in Russia by his death in 1924. By scrutinizing his actions and their individual impacts in relation to the desired modernity, historians can assess whether Lenin achieved the socialist dream he sought for. I will break down the essay into three components from which I can individually conclude their successfulness as an alternative modernity. These shall be established in the introduction. Introduction The introduction will firstly discuss the crisis of modernity in the inter-war period in order to put Leninââ¬â¢s rise to power and subsequent desire for a new society in context. This includes the general political and social crisis surrounding the propagating theories of nineteenth century thought. I will introduce the notion of a ââ¬Ësocialist utopiaââ¬â¢ and state the aims such a society seeks to establish. I will indicate that my concluding thoughts are to be that Lenin undoubtedly created an alternative modernity in Russia; however it is clear that by the time of his death he regarded Russia as communist work in progress and realized that much had to be done in order to reach the preferred modernity envisioned by Marx and Engels. Russia achieved a society which was, in practice, a form of success but ideologically was less successful at achieving the state it required. Section 1 The first section will convey the new means and ways of the Russian government and compare this to what Lenin wanted for his party at the time and what Lenin had hoped would happen to the government eventually according to Marxist beliefs. I will consider the success of the revolution in 1917 and the way in which the government consolidated its power in the years thereafter. In order to do this I will need to examine the ways in which Lenin secured emancipation of the working class according to Marx teachings because it is using these beliefs that a utopia hoped to be established. This includes the interpretation that authoritarianism would fix inter-war society in a time of fear and doubt. Other successes to consider include the ââ¬Ëdictatorship of the proletariatââ¬â¢, the support for the Bolshevik Party and communism, uniting the workers of the world for revolution, the ability to spread communism, and the path to the ultimate stateless society. Section 2 The second section refers to the economic alternative that communism had to offer and assesses the success of the new method in following the socialist tradition. I will note how the new forms of economic control were successful in that it transformed Russian economy into a more ââ¬Ëmodernââ¬â¢ system, however even though the system was undoubtedly communist, there were still capitalist elements that were not characteristic of the alternative modernity that Russia claimed allegiance to. I will discuss the success of Leninââ¬â¢s policies such as ââ¬ËWar Communismââ¬â¢ and the ââ¬ËNew Economic Policyââ¬â¢ (NEP), considering how they adhered to the ideology on which they were based and whether they were economically successful or not. Section 3 The last section will establish whether society and culture was also revolutionized in the endeavor to create a new form of society. Modernism attempts to create culture and indeed, anything that could influence culture was used in order to consolidate and maintain support of communism from the Russian people. The egalitarian option that socialism offers was applied in many areas of society in the hope that it would create a better, stronger and more content social order. This includes the emancipation of women which is an ideological consideration concerning the communist ideas of equality between the sexes. In this case practical needs were judged more important than ideological needs as reversal of many reforms concerning women were deemed essential to the regimes survival. Other cultural revolts that must be assessed include the attitude and dealings with the Orthodox Church, the use of arts and popular culture and the rise of propaganda. Conclusion The conclusion will state that Lenin did create of form of modernity that was different from anything politics had ever seen and that he did enjoy variations of success in comparison to the state of tsar ruled Russia, however this success was often limited and short lived. Lenin had to adapt his Marxist beliefs many times in order to make them a feasible option for Russia. Indeed, he did successfully create an alternative modernity but he failed to obtain the socialist utopia which was his ultimate goal as practical want trumped the ideological battle. The quest for an alternative modernity was never meant to happen in Leninââ¬â¢s lifetime, he was merely the instigator for what he hoped would develop into his idea of a perfect community. In this light, historians must conclude that Lenin was successful in achieving the starting point from which a utopia could emerge. deckmucomria1977http://www.blogger.com/profile/18112359000988999845noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063222127604528594.post-20401631660419232812020-01-04T22:16:00.001-08:002020-01-04T22:16:03.695-08:00Prison Overcrowding And The Criminal Justice System Essay Prison overcrowding occurs when the inmate population exceeds the rate in which inmates are released. More than half of Americaââ¬â¢s prisons are overcrowded. Strict government and state budgets are partly to blame for this issue. Operation of prisons at maximum capacity is dangerous for employees and other inmates. Prison overcrowding continues to add stress on the entire criminal justice system. Public Defenders, wardens, judges, governors, and probation officers must amalgamate to help resolve this issue. These entities usually run independently from each other and do not continuously consider the influence decisions have on the prison system. This paper incorporates a panel discussion and media broadcast between a judge, a warden, a governor, a public defender, and a probation officer. After a fight breaks out at Elm Heights Prison these individuals participate in a news broadcast to discuss the ramifications of exceeding prison population. Furthermore, this paper focuses on the judgeââ¬â¢s perspectives and solutions to prison overcrowding. Criminal justice officials are facing different challenges than those that existed many years ago. A greater number of narcotic users are now being housed in prisons. The GEO Group made a $415 million acquisition of Behavioral Interventions Inc. (BI) with a group of Wall Street firms, including Bank of America and JPMorgan, providing the financing. BI is the largest company that electronically monitors parolees and probationers, over 60,000 nationwide. Yes, many states have also decided to privatize their probation and parole services. After their release, prisoners immediately enter into a debt system. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Bearden v. Georgia that a probationer canââ¬â¢t be jailed if they canââ¬â¢t afford a criminal fine; however, who determines if someone can afford his fines and fees is often decided by private probation companies which have a clear conflict of interest. ââ¬Å"Many of these probation companies are not really acting like probation officers at all but debt collectors,â⬠says Chris Albin-Lackey, Senior Researcher for Human Rights Watch. Someone can easily be thrown back in jail if they simply get behind on those payments, fail a drug test, miss a parole appointment, or fail to maintain employment. Two thirds of parolees in the year 2000 were sent back to prison from those types of technical violations, rather from actual crimes. In addition, 87% of people in 2008 who were facing non-felony charges with bail set at $1,000 or less were incarcerated because they were unable to pay. Analyze the human resource administrative procedures in your school district and make recommendations to improve present practices. Additionally, the MSBSD has become more aggressive in recruiting practices for speech pathologists, occupational and physical therapists; Alaska is unable to produce these positions because the two state universities (UAF and UAA) do not offer the programs (K. Gardner, personal communication, April 2, 2016). In the past Alaska had a recruiting advantage due to substantially larger salaries, defined benefit retirement package (Tier I II), and a 20 year retirement timeline for teachers. Recently, all of those advantages vanished and human resource experts claim, they are having a difficult time competing with other states. Additionally, the pool of teachers is gradually decreasing (K. Gardner, personal communication, April 2, 2016). Although many people are drawn to Alaska for its scenery, mystique, and outdoor lifestyle, it is becoming harder to attract quality applicants to Alaska. Nonetheless, the state could consider incentivizing the recruitment of educators from the Lower 48. In order for an organization to know and understand the value of the abilities that their employees have a system needs to be in place. This system should also let the employee understand where his abilities have positioned him within the organization. The motivation of employees is an on-going process, and can delivered in different formats such as daily coaching, weekly, monthly, or even yearly evaluations. This will allow for steady employee growth in productivity and effectiveness. The purpose is to help maintain this effectiveness and growth within the organization. Performance appraisal systems benefit organizations on a continuous basis by providing much feedback that can be utilized to make organizational changes for the future or in the present. There is, says Dulewicz (1989), ââ¬Å"a basic human tendency to make judgments about those one is working with, as well as oneself. â⬠Appraisal is inevitable in our world and without structure to the appraisal system; employees and their work will be judged informally. Appraisal systems should contain many elements to make them effective. The criteria that a good appraisal system should contain are personnel criteria, economic criteria, counseling criteria, and acceptance criteria. These criteria will make the appraisal process successful for both the organization and the employee who the appraisal is for. The element of personnel criteria is effective in research and allocating merit, and documentation and future training for the organization. Economic criteria allows for the organization to determine and understand its funding situation for cost effectiveness, raises, and training. Counseling criteria will allow for feedback between the organization and the employee which can be used to determine the merits that the employees will receive. Acceptance is equal on both sides, the employee and the organization, because it is based on sound results or findings which is used to rate the employee during the appraisal. The four elements that can best define and establish effective appraisal systems are setting objectives, manage performance, perform the appraisal, and provide feedback and merit as needed. Setting objectives is when you as management decide what you want from employees and agree to it. Managing the performance of employees is where as managers you give employees the tools and resources they need to achieve the set objectives. When necessary perform the appraisal, monitor and assess your employeesââ¬â¢ performance and discuss the assessment with the employee and set future goals to achieve. Provide the necessary reward or merit based on the findings of the appraisal that you have performed on the employee or staff. As the director of human resources I am responsible for establishing an appraisal system for my organization. I have developed a system I have called EPAT; which is short for Employee Performance Appraisal and Tracking. This system will monitor and track employee progress and performance of individual employees and to keep record of all achievements reached within the organization. The rewards for employees have been revamped in accordance with a non- profit organization with limited budget. Rewards will be given to employees based on their work performance as well as time with the organization. Rewards will also be given as training achievements are accomplished. As the first 90 days of employment with the organization is achieved a pay increase will be given as long as all training is completed and no days have been missed. Other rewards that the organization will merit will be employee of the week, month, paid vacation, and mention in the monthly newsletter. The way that the EPAT works is that the program supervisor will use the EPAT forms to evaluate the employee on different criteria that will merit the employee raises and other rewards. The format of the EPAT is a 5 page appraisal form in which there is a section that contains 10 questions that will be asked of the employee during the appraisal this is page one, page two contains 18 points of emphasis that the organization feels is important to job performance such as ethical behavior, communication, integrity and steadiness. Page three will discuss client feedback and the anonymous feedback that they have given. Page four will be feedback from fellow coworkers within your department or program that they have given to management. Page five will be the employeesââ¬â¢ opportunity to give feedback on their performance as well as the goals and objectives that they have set and achieved within the organization and their plans and thoughts to improve upon their performance and what they feel is necessary from the organization to meet these objectives and goals. In conclusion the performance appraisal system is not only a tool for the organization but the employee as well and that there are many elements and criteria that goes into these systems. When used properly the results can be mutually beneficial and profitable for both parties. My appraisal system is simple and inclusive of all those that the employee works and interacts with, as well as the employee themselves, thus the findings will be more fact based and readily acceptable by the employee.
